“Following the MBO of Safe, we implemented a strategy of steady organic growth which proved highly effective. However, we recognised that we needed to expand our product offering and move into new markets in order to maintain the momentum of the business.”

“The quickest way to make the step change was through acquisition and we sat down with John to discuss potential targets. The outcome was three acquisitions in just over twelve months which have increased the scale and firepower of the business as well as creating an excellent foundation for further growth.”

“John was integral to achieving this strategy. Without his hands on, commercial and cost effective approach we would not have been able to deliver the strategy so efficiently.”

Sandy Scott, managing director

Safe Computing, the Leicester based software development and outsourcing business, undertook three acquisitions in just over twelve months and by doing so increased its turnover to £12m, employing 150 staff.

Following the MBO in 2002, Safe consolidated its position as market leader in the provision of bespoke software for the recruitment industry alongside its position as a recognised player in the delivery of HR and Payroll systems.

The acquisition strategy was designed to expand the core product range and also allow Safe to establish a true outsourcing capability that could be sold as an alternative to systems to be used in-house. The transactions involved:

  • Acquisition of Topaz Computer Systems Limited
  • Acquisition of the “Back Office” of Options Employment Group
  • Acquistion of AHL Limited.

Skye was involved in all aspects of the transactions from initiation and initial approach, to negotiation and structuring through to project management and completion against very tight deadlines.
